Dycal® from Dentsply is a clinically trusted radiopaque calcium hydroxide composition designed for use as a cavity liner and base under restorative materials. Formulated as a two-component self-curing system (base and catalyst) it facilitates the formation of secondary dentin while providing reliable pulp protection. Dycal is distinguished by its excellent handling properties high compressive strength and low solubility making it ideal for both direct and indirect pulp capping procedures. Its radiopacity ensures clear visualization on radiographs enhancing diagnostic confidence. Base Paste Composition
Calcium hydroxide
Inert organic fillers
Glycol salicylate (acts as a solvent and carrier)
Catalyst Paste Composition
Calcium tungstate (radiopacifier)
Titanium dioxide (coloring agent)
Zinc oxide (reinforcing filler)
Butylene glycol disalicylate (setting agent)
Directions to use
Clean and isolate the prepared cavity area.
Dispense equal lengths of base and catalyst pastes onto a mixing pad.
Mix thoroughly for approximately 10 seconds until a uniform color is achieved.
Apply a thin layer to the deepest portion of the cavity using a suitable applicator.
Avoid excessive thickness to ensure proper restorative placement.
Allow the material to self-cure for approximately 2½ to 3½ minutes.
Proceed with the placement of the restorative material after setting,
