Description
A posterior restoration has to survive real occlusal forces from day one, and it has to be simple enough to place reliably at the chair. GC Fuji IX Gold Label 9 is a high-viscosity, strontium-based glass ionomer cement built around exactly that requirement. It's formulated for bulk placement and delivers excellent strength, chemical adhesion to enamel and dentin, and sustained fluoride release—all without requiring a separate etch-and-bond step. Where most restorative materials rely mainly on micromechanical retention, Gold Label 9 forms an actual chemical bond with tooth structure through an ion-exchange mechanism. That provides a reliable marginal seal while allowing more conservative cavity preparation, since there's no need to create additional mechanical retention in otherwise healthy tooth structure. It also sets without polymerization shrinkage, helping reduce marginal stress and maintain restoration integrity over time. The strontium-based glass offers benefits beyond radiopacity. Strontium ions contribute to the formation of strontium hydroxyapatite and fluoroapatite within the tooth, supporting internal remineralization alongside sustained fluoride release—an important advantage for patients at higher risk of recurrent caries. Over time, calcium ions from saliva interact with the restoration surface, gradually increasing its surface strength and wear resistance, contributing to long-term clinical durability. With high compressive strength, excellent flexural strength, and dependable wear resistance, Gold Label 9 performs well under everyday chewing forces in posterior restorations. Its condensable consistency allows straightforward bulk placement with excellent adaptation to cavity walls, helping reduce chairside treatment time while maintaining predictable handling. It is indicated for Class I and selected Class II restorations, pediatric restorations, base and core build-ups, cervical lesions, temporary restorations, sandwich techniques, and patients with high caries risk, making it one of the most versatile posterior restorative glass ionomer cements used in daily clinical practice.

Directions to use

Ø Tooth Preparation

  • Clean the cavity thoroughly.
  • Remove caries with minimal tooth structure removal.
  • Isolate the area and avoid contamination with saliva or blood.

Ø  Surface Conditioning (Optional but Recommended)

  • Apply GC Cavity Conditioner (20% polyacrylic acid) to the cavity for 10 seconds.
  • Rinse and gently dry—do not desiccate.

Ø Dispensing Powder and Liquid

  • Dispense 1 level scoop of powder and 1 drop of liquid onto a mixing pad.
  • Use the correct powder-to-liquid ratio as per instructions (typically 3.6g powder : 1g liquid).

Ø Mixing

  • Mix thoroughly using a plastic spatula for 20–25 seconds until a smooth, glossy consistency is achieved.
  • Avoid incorporating air bubbles.

Ø Placement

  • Quickly apply the mix into the cavity using a suitable instrument.
  • Adapt well to cavity walls and avoid overfilling.

Ø Shaping

  • Shape and contour immediately after placement.
  • Maintain moisture control and avoid drying out.

Ø Initial Setting

  • Allow the material to set for approximately 2.5 minutes after start of mix.
  • Avoid contact with moisture during setting.

Ø Final Finishing

  • Begin finishing procedures (carving, trimming) after 6 minutes from start of mixing.
  • Polish if desired for a smoother surface.

Ø Optional Varnish Application

  • Apply GC Fuji Varnish or light-cured resin coating to protect against moisture and enhance longevity.
