Description

Placing a solid core material in a cleaned and shaped canal is only part of successful obturation. The sealer's job is to occupy the interface between the canal walls and that core, adapting into the small irregularities gutta-percha can't fill on its own. Dentsply AH Plus is a two-component, epoxy-amine resin root canal sealer developed for permanent endodontic obturation with gutta-percha or another compatible core material.

It's supplied as separate Paste A and Paste B components, dispensed in equal volumes and mixed to a homogeneous consistency before placement. The paste–paste presentation allows the clinician to dispense and mix only the quantity required for the procedure.

Its thixotropic flow supports distribution along the prepared canal walls while retaining sufficient body for controlled placement. A low film thickness lets the mixed sealer settle into the narrow interface between dentin and the obturation core without taking over as the primary filling material — AH Plus is meant to work as a sealer around gutta-percha, not as a stand-alone bulk root-filling material.

The epoxy resin formulation is built for low setting shrinkage, low solubility, and dimensional stability once it sets. Those properties support adaptation within the prepared canal system. Final obturation quality also depends on effective cleaning, shaping, irrigation, canal drying, controlled sealer placement, core-material adaptation, and an appropriate coronal restoration.

The radiopaque formulation supports postoperative radiographic assessment of the completed root canal filling. Its handling also supports selected cold and warm obturation techniques, provided you're working within the current Dentsply instructions and the protocol of whichever obturation system you're using.

The extended working time provides adequate time for mixing, placement, and completion of the selected obturation technique. That said, the material should still be applied in a controlled quantity, and extrusion beyond the apical foramen needs to be avoided regardless of how much working time is left on the clock.

Directions to use
  1. Complete root canal cleaning, shaping, and irrigation according to the planned endodontic protocol.
  2. Dry the prepared canal appropriately, ensuring no visible irrigant remains.
  3. Dispense equal volumes of Paste A and Paste B onto the supplied mixing pad or another suitable mixing surface.
  4. Keep the coloured cap with the coloured tube and the white cap with the white tube; do not interchange them.
  5. Mix both pastes thoroughly with a suitable spatula until a uniform colour and homogeneous consistency are obtained.
  6. Introduce a controlled amount of mixed sealer according to the selected obturation technique and the current Dentsply instructions.
  7. Coat the canal walls or the master gutta-percha cone as required by the chosen clinical technique.
  8. Insert and seat the compatible obturation material without applying excessive apical pressure.
  9. Avoid overfilling or forcing sealer beyond the apical foramen.
  10. Remove excess sealer from the pulp chamber before it sets.
  11. Complete the coronal restoration according to the selected restorative protocol.
  12. Evaluate the extent and quality of the completed obturation radiographically.

For professional dental use only.

Additional Information

Clinical Considerations

  • AH Plus must be used with gutta-percha or another compatible obturation core; it is not a stand-alone bulk-filling material.
  • Use only a controlled amount of sealer because excessive material increases the risk of apical extrusion.
  • Do not intentionally extend the material beyond the apical foramen.
  • Adequate canal preparation, disinfection, and drying remain essential to the outcome.
  • Compatibility with a specific warm or thermoplastic obturation system should be confirmed before use.
  • Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to epoxy resins, amines, or other listed components.
  • Avoid contact with skin, eyes, and oral soft tissues.
  • Use suitable gloves and professional protective equipment.
  • Remove excess material and clean instruments before the sealer sets.
  • Do not interchange the caps of Paste A and Paste B.
  • Follow the current Dentsply instructions for placement, working time, setting conditions, and storage.

Storage and Handling

  • Close both tubes securely immediately after dispensing.
  • Keep each cap with its corresponding tube.
  • Prevent contamination of the tube openings.
  • Store under the conditions stated on the product label and current instructions.
  • Protect the material from excessive heat and moisture.
  • Do not use after the stated expiry date.
  • Dispose of contaminated or excess material according to applicable clinical-waste procedures.

Frequently Asked Questions

It's used as a root canal sealer during permanent endodontic obturation, occupying the interface between prepared canal dentin and gutta-percha or another compatible obturating material.
A two-component epoxy-amine resin sealer, supplied as separate Paste A and Paste B components.
No. AH Plus is an epoxy resin–based sealer, not a calcium silicate or bioceramic root canal sealer.
No. It's designed to work alongside gutta-percha or another compatible obturation core, not as the bulk root-filling material on its own.
Dispense equal volumes of both pastes and mix until you get a uniform colour and homogeneous consistency.
The reported working time is a minimum of four hours at 23°C, and the reported setting time is a minimum of eight hours at 37°C under specified test conditions. Actual handling may vary with temperature and clinical conditions, so it's worth confirming the current figures in the manufacturer's instructions before use.
Yes, its radiopacity supports postoperative radiographic assessment of the completed root canal filling.
Yes, it supports both — selected cold techniques such as cold lateral condensation, and selected warm or thermoplastic techniques — provided this is permitted by the current Dentsply instructions and the chosen obturation system.
No eugenol appears in either the Paste A or Paste B composition — it's an epoxy-amine resin system.
AH Plus shows adhesion to prepared root-canal dentin and is designed to adapt along the canal walls. That shouldn't be interpreted as a guarantee of complete leakage prevention, though.
Apical extrusion should be avoided. The material is meant to stay within the prepared root canal system, and accidental extrusion may irritate adjacent tissues or anatomical structures. It also shouldn't be considered predictably resorbable — AH Plus is intended as a permanent sealer, so intentional extrusion isn't appropriate under any circumstances.
Yes, once the previous filling material has been removed and the canal has been properly cleaned, shaped, and prepared. AH Plus itself isn't a retreatment-removal material.
That depends on the number and anatomy of the canals, the obturation technique used, and how much is dispensed each time — there's no fixed case count to assume.
Each cap corresponds to its own paste tube. Interchanging them can lead to cross-contamination and premature setting around the tube openings.
