Description

Ivoclar Te-Econom Flow is a light-cured, radiopaque flowable hybrid composite developed for selected direct restorative procedures. Its low-viscosity consistency supports controlled placement and adaptation in small or confined preparations where a flowable restorative material is clinically appropriate.

Ivoclar's instructions indicate the material for Class I–V restorations, with Class I and II use limited to small cavities. It is also indicated for selected restorations in deciduous teeth when appropriate isolation, bonding, placement, and light-curing protocols are followed.

Its flowable consistency supports adaptation to internal cavity surfaces and controlled access to narrow preparations. The syringe presentation allows measured dispensing of small quantities. Its radiopacity supports differentiation of the restoration from adjacent tooth structure during postoperative radiographic assessment.

Te-Econom Flow is not self-adhesive. Enamel and dentin must be treated with a compatible adhesive system according to the selected bonding protocol. Adequate isolation is essential because the product should not be used when a sufficiently dry working field cannot be established.

The composite must be placed incrementally. Ivoclar's referenced instructions specify increments of up to 2 mm, with each layer polymerised individually according to the curing-light intensity. The current instructions supplied with the product should take priority if the curing recommendations have changed.

Technical values are based on the referenced Ivoclar instructions. The current IFU and information printed on the supplied product must take priority if any specification has changed.

Composition

Te-Econom Flow contains:

  • Dimethacrylates: 37 wt%
  • Inorganic fillers: 62 wt% or 38 vol%
  • Inorganic filler particle size: 0.04–7 µm
  • Initiators
  • Stabilisers
  • Pigments: 1 wt%

The manufacturer's referenced IFU identifies the material as a dimethacrylate-based flowable composite with inorganic fillers, initiators, stabilisers, and pigments.

Curing Recommendations

Curing-Light Intensity Recommended Exposure Time
≥500 mW/cm² 20 seconds
≥1000 mW/cm² 10 seconds
≥2000 mW/cm² 5 seconds in Turbo mode

These values come from the referenced Ivoclar instructions. Confirm them against the current IFU supplied with the product and the validated output of the curing unit.

Directions to use
  1. Select the required shade before isolation, while the tooth is still hydrated.
  2. Establish adequate isolation, preferably with a rubber dam where clinically appropriate.
  3. Prepare the cavity according to the requirements of the planned adhesive restoration.
  4. Clean the preparation with water spray.
  5. Gently dry the preparation without over-desiccating the dentin.
  6. Provide appropriate pulp or dentin protection in deep preparations where clinically indicated.
  7. Place a matrix and interdental wedge where required.
  8. Condition and bond enamel and dentin using a compatible adhesive system, following its instructions.
  9. Confirm complete adhesive coverage and polymerise the bonding agent as directed by its manufacturer.
  10. Dispense Te-Econom Flow directly from the syringe using a clean application tip or suitable restorative instrument.
  11. Apply the material in increments not exceeding 2 mm.
  12. Adapt the material within the preparation, taking care not to trap air.
  13. Polymerise each increment separately, in line with your curing light's intensity and the current Ivoclar recommendations.
  14. Keep the curing-light tip as close as practical and correctly oriented toward the material.
  15. Finish the restoration with suitable finishing instruments or fine diamonds.
  16. Check margins, proximal contacts, and occlusion where applicable.
  17. Polish the restoration with an appropriate composite-polishing system.
  18. Replace the syringe cap immediately after dispensing.

For professional dental use only.

Additional Information

Clinical Considerations

  • Te-Econom Flow is not self-adhesive and requires a compatible adhesive system.
  • Use only where a sufficiently dry working field can be established.
  • Class I and II indications are limited to small cavities.
  • Do not use as an unrestricted replacement for a conventional sculptable posterior composite.
  • Apply in increments of no more than 2 mm.
  • Polymerise each increment individually.
  • Check curing-light output regularly — insufficient irradiance can reduce polymerisation.
  • Curing time depends on light intensity, curing distance, tip orientation, and equipment condition.
  • Avoid contamination with saliva, blood, or moisture after bonding.
  • Direct pulp capping with Te-Econom Flow is contraindicated.
  • Protect areas close to the pulp with an appropriate pulp/dentin protective material where clinically indicated.
  • Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to any listed component.
  • Stop using the material if sensitisation occurs.
  • Avoid contact of uncured material with skin, mucosa, and eyes.
  • Eugenol- or clove-oil-containing materials may inhibit the polymerisation of methacrylate-based materials.
  • Cationic mouthwashes, plaque-disclosing agents, and chlorhexidine may contribute to discolouration.
  • Use only for manufacturer-supported indications and according to the current instructions supplied with the product.

Contraindications

Do not use:

  • When adequate isolation cannot be achieved
  • When the specified application technique cannot be followed
  • In patients with known allergy to any component
  • For direct pulp capping

Safety Information

  • Unpolymerised material may irritate skin or oral mucosa.
  • Methacrylate components may cause sensitisation in susceptible individuals.
  • Avoid unnecessary contact with uncured composite.
  • Standard medical gloves do not provide complete protection against methacrylate sensitisation.
  • Use appropriate protective measures and minimise direct handling of uncured material.

Storage and Handling

  • Store at 2–28°C.
  • Protect the syringe from direct light and excessive heat.
  • Close the syringe immediately after use.
  • Exposure to light may cause premature polymerisation.
  • Follow the expiry date printed on the syringe or packaging.
  • Do not disinfect the syringe with oxidising disinfectants.
  • Keep the dispensing opening clean and free from contamination.
  • Do not use material that has expired or developed an abnormal consistency.
